Grade 2 Activities

May Day 2017

Our outstanding 2nd grade performance!!!

Standing Side By Side

We're as different as can be but we can live in harmony,
Brothers, sisters all are we standing side by side.
Together we can take a stand, just reach out and hold my hand,
We will do it, yes we can, standing side by side.

Happiness will come your way, just share a little love each day.
The moment is now, we'll do it somehow, standing side by side.
We're different and we know it's true. You're not me and I'm not you.
But we'll find a way, starting today, standing side by side.

Rooster Rap

You're a very noisy rooster and you're here to say
You must get up and moving 'cause there's work to do today!
Get up, get up, get out of your beds!
Wake up, wake up, wake up you sleepy heads.

We're tired of your grumping and we're tired of your groaning
We're fed up with your attitude and sick of all your moaning.
Get up, get up, get out of your beds!
Wake up, wake up, wake up you sleepy heads.

Sign On The Line!

Please sir, sign on the line!
We need yours and we need mine.
We want every signature today!

It’s gotten very bad!
Here’s the pencil and the pad.
Please sign up and do it right away.

Can’t you see we’re plain worn out?
You just have to help us out!
There is simply nothing left to do!

There really is no choice,
When he stops we’ll all rejoice!
So just dot your “I’s” and cross your “t’s”!
You won’t be sorry that’s our guarantee!

Make Him Stop Today

Let's make a plan that's simple, let's think of it today.
We need to think of something to make him go away!

We can't stand one more minute of that dreadful crowing sound,
There must be something we can do to chase him out of town.

Get that rooster out of our hair!  We don't want him round anywhere!
We've had enough and it seems so unfair. Make him stop today.

Get that rooster off of our farm. Without him there's no more alarm.
We've had enough so what is the harm. Make him stop today!

Fabulous Day

It's gonna be a fabulous day
Just look around and see
The sun has come up and it's here to stay
Waiting for you and me

Get up now don't hesitate
There's so much to be done
The sun is out we're feeling great
The day has just begun

It's gonna be a fabulous day
Just look around and see
The sun has come up and it's here to stay
Waiting for you and me

All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth performed by Thomas 2nd graders...

In music class this rotation, we learned a new rhythm called rest - when we are silent on a beat.  Our pictures show us demonstrating and reading our rest!

For our annual school sing-a-long on December 21st, second graders will be singing "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth."  Read below to practice at home....

All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth, my two front teeth, see my two front teeth.
Gee if I could only have my two front teeth, then I could wish you Merry Christmas!
It seems so long since I could say, "Sister Susie sitting on a thistle!"
Gosh, oh gee, how happy I'd be, if I could only whistle (thhh).
All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth, my two front teeth, see my two front teeth.
Gee if I could only have my two front teeth, then I could wish you Merry Christmas!

We are listening to In The Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 by Edvard Grieg.  Check out the recording below.

We are working on a new rhythm that is a silent beat - here are classes singing Hot Cross Buns with 3 silent beats.

Check out our maraca playing in 2nd grade!!

Currently, in 2nd grade, we are learning about 2 pitches called sol and mi.  One picture shows a singing game "Bluebird" which uses a sol-mi melody and one picture shows students writing sol and mi on the staff.

Second graders have been reviewing ta and ti-ti at the beginning of the year.  We read a book called Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb.  We discovered that the title in rhythm names is ta ta ti-ti ta and then we played that rhythm on the drums!

We have been learning about the music staff in second grade.

The music staff has 5 lines, 4 spaces, and we number them with line 1 starting at the bottom.
Can you count the lines and spaces on the staff below?

Can you tell where these notes are on the staff - for example, line 2 or space 4?

Do you want to practice "Check It Out, Check It Out?"  Click on the video below!

It's about learning, check it out, check it out.  It's about thinking, check it out, check it out.
It's about creating, check it out, check it out.  It's about growing, ch-ch-check it out.
Oh each day that we come to school -  we're ready to learn and our brains are full.
Our teachers guide us on our way, our parents help us every day.

It's about learning, check it out, check it out.  It's about thinking, check it out, check it out.
It's about creating, check it out, check it out.  It's about growing, ch-ch-check it out.
We learn respect and appreciate - We know what we have is really great.
We take a risk, we take a dare - We can feel the excitement in the air.

That's the Thomas way, check it out, check it out.  That's the Dublin way, check it out, check it out.
We are proud to shout, check it out, check it out.  This is what we're about, check it out, check it out.
THO-MAS Check it out!
