Nuttin' For Christmas

Check out our rhythmic dictation....

We will be having our annual sing-a-long on December 21st.  Third graders will sing a song called "Nuttin' for Christmas."  Read below to practice the words at home...

I broke my bat on Johnny's head, somebody snitched on me.
I hid a frog in sister's bed, somebody snitched on me.
I spilled some ink on Mommy's rug, I made Tommy eat a bug, bought some gum with a penny slug and somebody snitched on me.

Oh, I'm getting nuttin' for Christmas.  Mommy and Daddy are mad.  I'm getting nuttin' for Christmas, 'cause I ain't been nuttin' but bad.

I put a tack on teacher's chair, somebody snitched on me.
I tied a knot in Susie's hair, somebody snitched on me.
I did a dance on Mommy's plants, climbed a tree and tore my pants, filled the sugar bowl with ants and somebody snitched on me.

Oh, I'm getting nuttin' for Christmas.  Mommy and Daddy are mad.  I'm getting nuttin' for Christmas, 'cause I ain't been nuttin' but bad.

We had guest teachers from The Ohio State University in one of our third grade classes. They taught the students some drumming activities.

Look at one of our student leaders - she is leading the class in solfa and rhythm singing!

Here's a new song, King's Land, in solfa and hand signs.  What great musicians - they are reading off of the music staff!!

Listen to the 3rd graders sing Apple Tree in solfa and rhythm!!

We are playing a singing game called Mouse, Mousie. The song contains our new note "do."

Third graders are learning a new solfa pitch at the beginning of the year.  This game song, 1, 2, 3 Johnny Caught a Flea, has our new note in it.
Look at how we synergize during the game.

We are listening to Fossils from Carnival of the Animals to practice our ti-tika's!
Click on the video below to listen to it at home!!  Practice reading the rhythm.

Third grade leaders of the Can-Can

Can you sing this song at home?  What color is the chorus - red or blue?

I've got a car that's made of tin
Nobody knows what shape it's in
Got four wheels and a running board
It's a four door, it's a Ford.

Honk honk, rattle rattle, toot crash, beep beep
Honk honk, rattle rattle, toot crash, beep beep
Honk honk, rattle rattle, toot crash, beep beep
Honk, honk!

Pepsi-cola went to town
Coca-cola knocked him down
Dr. Pepper fixed him up
That's why we drink Seven-up

Honk honk, rattle rattle, toot crash, beep beep
Honk honk, rattle rattle, toot crash, beep beep
Honk honk, rattle rattle, toot crash, beep beep
Honk, honk!

I'm a little smelly skunk
Sleeping under someone's bunk
No one wants to play with me
I'm as smelly as can be!

Honk honk, rattle rattle, toot crash, beep beep
Honk honk, rattle rattle, toot crash, beep beep
Honk honk, rattle rattle, toot crash, beep beep
Honk, honk!

Called myself on the telephone
Just to see if I was home
Asked myself out on a date
Said be ready at half-past eight

Honk honk, rattle rattle, toot crash, beep beep
Honk honk, rattle rattle, toot crash, beep beep
Honk honk, rattle rattle, toot crash, beep beep

Honk, honk!

In music class, we wrote the rhythm for the Can-Can by Jacques Offenbach.  Then we listened to the music.  If you would like to hear it again, click on the link below!
